Ms. Kelly is Senior Counsel in the San Francisco office. She is a career defense litigator and has extensive trial, mediation and arbitration experience in the following areas : Products Liability - including Complex Toxic Tort; Premises Liability; Government Entity Defense; ADA (handicap access) cases; Construction Defect; Subrogation; Property Damage; Employment Law, including sexual harassment, hostile work environment and wrongful termination; Officers & Directors cases, including Libel & Slander, Breach of Contract and Fraud; Motor Vehicle cases involving various injuries, including brain damage, loss of limb, paralysis and death.
Ms. Kelly has also handled several cases through the Appellate stage. As a junior attorney she prepared the Respondent's Brief, and won, in a published decision in Hughes v. Western MacArthur (1987) 192 Cal.App.3d 951. Most recently Ms. Kelly appealed the reversal of a defense verdict, and won in April of 2007, before the California Court of Appeal, First Appellate District.
Ms. Kelly, an Oakland, California native, received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, with a Public Affairs and Administration Option, and a Business Administration Minor, from California State University, Hayward in 1980, where she was a California State Scholar. Ms. Kelly received her Juris Doctor in 1983 from the University of San Francisco, The School of Law. While attending USF, Ms. Kelly was a member of the USF Law Review and received the Black American Law Students Academic Achievement Award while working fulltime to put herself through USF.
She has participated in The Lawyers in the Library, free legal clinic, for several years, in Oakland, California. She has also participated in The Mentorship Program, at the Law & Government Academy at McClymond's High School, in Oakland, California.
Ms. Kelly is admitted to practice in the California state courts, the United States District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of California, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She is a member of the Alameda County Bar Association, The Queen's Bench Bar Association, and the Charles Houston Bar Association.
